MEdicine Hat minor Hockey Awards
The Medicine Hat Minor Hockey Association (MHMHA) is proud to recognize the dedication, skill, and sportsmanship shown by players, coaches, and volunteers throughout each season. The MHMHA Awards program celebrates the hard work, commitment, and passion for the game that are integral to our community’s success.
Every year, we honor individuals who have made a significant impact on and off the ice. These awards highlight achievements in athleticism, leadership, teamwork, and community involvement.
The Rookie Coach of the Year Award is given each year to a coach with less than two (2) years of head coach experience with MHMHA, who is recognized for demonstrating the qualities of an exceptional new coach during the most recent hockey season.
The Coach of the Year Award is granted each year to the coach who most effectively embodies the core values of leadership, skill development, and sportsmanship throughout the hockey season. This recognition is not only based on their achievements within the current season but also takes into account their overall contributions to Medicine Hat Minor Hockey Association (MHMHA). A coach nominated for this award is one who inspires their players, fosters a positive team culture, and shows a consistent commitment to the development of the sport at the community level.
In addition to a coach's impact on the ice, their broader service to MHMHA—whether through mentorship, community engagement, or dedication to the growth of the program—plays a significant role in the decision-making process.
The Manager of the Year Award is presented each year to the individual who demonstrates exceptional organizational skills, leadership, and dedication as a team manager during the hockey season.
In evaluating candidates, consideration is also given to their history of service to the association and their contribution to the overall success of the team, both on and off the ice.
The Champion Appreciation Award is presented annually to an individual who has made a significant and lasting contribution to Minor Hockey in Medicine Hat. This award honors someone who demonstrates exceptional leadership, sportsmanship, and a commitment to the betterment of the community. The recipient is someone who not only supports the growth of minor hockey but also serves as a positive role model within the community, consistently exhibiting integrity, kindness, and a willingness to lend a helping hand.
Their contributions go beyond simply volunteering or coaching—they inspire others to get involved, lead by example, and support the next generation of athletes.
The Volunteer of the Year Award is presented annually to an individual who has shown exceptional dedication by generously donating their time and efforts to support the growth and improvement of Minor Hockey in Medicine Hat throughout the past season. This recognition highlights a volunteer's commitment to enhancing the local hockey community and ensuring the continued success of the programs.
In addition to contributions made during the current season, the nominee's past service to Medicine Hat Minor Hockey is also taken into account. This individual will have made a significant and lasting impact on the association, whether through organizing events, assisting with operations, or providing support to players, coaches, and teams over the years.
The Medicine Hat Minor Hockey Association Scholarships are awarded to recognize Medicine Hat Minor Hockey Association players who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the sport of hockey through active participation and volunteer involvement in the community. Up to two (2) yearly $1000 scholarships will be awarded at the end of each season.

Nomination Process
Nominations for each award are submitted by coaches, players, and members of the MHMHA community. Each nominee is evaluated based on their contribution to their team and the association as a whole.
