The U11A Canucks have been hard at work contributing to our community through donations of not only items, but their time.
They spent a month collecting food and monetary donations each time they had a dryland practice or team event. The team took 124lbs of food to the Root Cellar on Dec 13th, and then volunteered their time to pack 85 Christmas hampers. They used teamwork and made a strategy to get this done in the most efficient way. While there, they also received a tour where they learned everything about the Root Cellar and how they help our community.
In November, they took the money donated and shopped for our senior community with tags from Santa for Seniors. They split into teams and cruised the mall to pick out their gifts. They bought 11 seniors gifts during that shopping trip. On December 20th, they volunteered their time to help distribute these and other gifts to Meadow Ridge Seniors Village. They even got to meet and visit with a couple of the seniors whose tags they had purchased for!
Doing the front half of the work and combining it with the back half showed the team the full effect of what small acts of kindness can contribute to our community. Both events sparked some great conversations and awareness amongst the players and families.
We are proud to see the time you a spending to make a difference to those around you. Thank you Canucks!
