PURPOSE #
The policy aims to ensure the safety and well-being of all hockey participants and to provide clear communication regarding uncarded on–ice helpers and coaches participating in on–ice activities within Hockey Alberta Sanctioned events through MHMHA.This process is crucial for maintaining a safe and positive environment for all involved in hockey in Alberta.
PARTICIPANT DEFINITION – REQUIRING TO BE CARDED #
1. “Participate” means to engage, knowingly or otherwise, in an activity. Such activity includes, without limitation, coaching,On-ice helper, or acting as a trainer.
2. For anyone requesting to participate in any MHMHA on-ice actives and/or, on the bench during a MHMHA event, requires to be carded through the association. On-ice actives and/or on the bench during a MHMHA event includes, camps, practices, exhibition games, games, playoffs, provincials, and tournaments.
PROCESS OF GETTING CARDED #
1. The head coach or manager shall send a request to accounting@mhmha.ca for a coach, on ice helper, and player mentors (ie. SAHA players, Rattlers players, etc.) to be added to the team’s roster and be carded.
2. If the request is approved by MHMHA, MHMHA will then request approval from Hockey Alberta.
3. When/if the request is approved or denied, the original requester will be notified along with the minimum course and trainingrequirements the individual will require.
REQUIREMENTS TO BE CARDED #
1. Every coach, on-ice helper, and safety person require an up-to-date certificate of completion for The Respect in Sport Activity Leader/Coach Program. Completion of the Respect in Sport Activity Leader/Coach Program and a criminal check are required BEFORE the individual is permitted on the ice or bench. See disciplinary actions within this policy for failure to comply.
2. Each team staff participant requires different certifications. When carding is granted, the requester will be provided with the requirements for each individual. These certifications are due to be completed no later than November 15 of the coinciding year. If the required certifications are not completed before the deadline, that individual will not be permitted on the ice or bench and the disciplinary actions communicated in this policy will be enforced.
DISCIPLINE #
1. First Offense – 1 game suspension for the offender and Head Coach of the team committing the offense.
2. Second Offense – 2 game suspension for the offender and Head Coach of the team committing the offense.
3. Third Offense – Suspension for the offender and Head Coach of the team committing the offense for the remainder of the season including playoffs, provincials, tournaments.
Any revisions, additions or updates to these policies will be posted on the website. Any Policy marked with an Asterix (*) denotes a zero-tolerance policy.
Upon which a violation occurs there will be no concessions made by the association.
